The baggage of a past that still hurts, only gets heavier over time. The weight becomes more difficult to offload and affects us in ways we did not intend, because of the naive assumption that we can control the affects of pain. That we can ignore the tense feeling that arises in us every time we think of that period or season(s) of hurt. In reality, when we don't make peace with a troubled past, it shows up in ways we cannot foresee in our present, and even future. We won't be able to anticipate what will trigger the memory and how we will react. It is important to make peace with the past.
To go back and visit the cause and impact of the pain means you will be setting yourself free from captivity. To be able to acknowledge the negative and all its ugliness, and yet still find positives as a result of persevering through that experience - is liberating. You have freed yourself to embrace every aspect of your personal story and in that process, you have created a way to be a light to someone else; who needs your story of overcoming, who needs your encouragement, who needs to see you living fully.
So make peace with the pain in your past today - someone is waiting to hear your story.
