"Average is predictable. Awesome is adventurous. So when faced with the decision to be awesome or stay average, most of us opt for the familiar, for the comfortable. Oh, we like the idea of an awesome adventure, but most of us default to trying to manicure the road to awesome so it's as safe and predictable as the road to average." - excerpt from Start. by Jon Acuff
We're creatures of habit. It's in our DNA to be attracted to what keeps us comfortable, while something inside of us yearns for more. The problem with the more is that it demands that we part ways with what is safe, comfortable, what we know...to move essentially to what is unknown. That's incredibly difficult. Difficult in the sense that rightly or wrongly, there is a built in assumption in our minds that where we are comfortable is the place of safety. Where we can predict what happens next, is naturally where we belong. Yet the error in this type of thinking is, that we deny ourselves the opportunity to be challenged, to venture into new territory, to gain valuable insight. Our attraction to being comfortable ultimately robs us of pursuing and fulfilling our life calling. Too many people know what they're called to do, but often times, are trapped by the false sense of security a comfort zone provides. The reality is, it's fear in disguise denying us the adventure and fulfillment in living out our dreams.
"Do you know what fear and doubt fear? Community." -excerpt from Start. by Jon Acuff
So true! I have a high value for community. We weren't created to do life alone. Our greatest desire is to belong. And on the journey to pursuing one's purpose, it's so important to pursue, and cultivate a community of dreamers, who will encourage, sharpen and champion you along the way. So find your tribe of dreamers. You'll be grateful for them in seasons of fear and doubt because they'll be the ones to show you the reward on the other side of the fear. And in seasons of success, you'll appreciate and value them more, for being there all along.
