The pen is mightier than the sword!
You've heard these sayings since childhood. They may have played a role in how you perceived the use of
words. On one hand, we internalized that only physical punches inflicted pain. Profanity and toxic language should not cause any pain because they are merely words.
On the other hand, the second phrase, which we probably heard in our high school English class, painted a very different image of words. Words could leave scars deeper than a weapon!
So which is it? Do words lack the ability to leave lasting marks or do hurtful words leave the worst scars? It's important to have a perspective on the power of words. Its ability to influence culture, right injustices, or simply speak truth in a loving manner. The way we use our words can cause bondage or set captives free. So proceed with caution.
