So why are people so excited about these shows receiving a second life? What's with the intense nostalgia and celebration behind it all from fans (myself included as a Gilmore Girls fan)? Perhaps it has to do with a longing for a time in our lives that was a more innocent, fun loving one. A time that seemed easier, less hectic, and when stress was caused by things we would consider trivial today as adults.
This doesn't mean we're unhappy or dissatisfied with our current lives, it does however mean we have an appreciation for story telling in simple, unhurried forms, that still reveals a level of complexity seen in everyday life. Particularly in a show like Gilmore Girls. In today's culture, where television shows are jam packed with plots and sub plots, explosions, and intense violence on repeat, there's a noticeable population calling for another way to tell stories. Another way to engage an audience and captivate a loyal following.
The entertainment industry seems to have finally heard their pleas. Serving up large doses of coming of age television shows like the dessert you had to eat your dinner to eventually receive. After what seems like eternity, that feeling of finally eating what you craved all along, can't be beat (at least temporarily).
For fans of these beloved shows, its now time for dessert!
